Up until 1999, it was forbidden in Switzerland to make spirits from potatoes or grain. After the law was repealed in 1999, the Locher brewery began producing their own whiskey, which they call Sntis Appenzeller Malt. By default, this matures in oak barrels that previously contained beer. Sntis 7 Years Edition Alpstein XV first matured the entire time in former beer
